Her focus is on literacy and math, using student data to guide instructional decisions and supporting teachers through hands-on professional learning. Before moving into coaching, Couto spent many years teaching elementary school, where she found her passion for helping every child grow into a confident, capable learner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2024, Couto was named Rhode Island Teacher of the Year, and in 2025 she served on the Rhode Island Council on Elementary and Secondary Education. She has also mentored fellow educators and led professional learning sessions across the state focused on the Science of Reading and evidence-based instruction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Couto earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Rhode Island in 1996 and has spent her career in public education ever since, always looking for new ways to grow as an educator and support the teachers around her. Literacy remains her biggest passion.
