{"id":129,"date":"2014-05-22T15:07:45","date_gmt":"2014-05-22T19:07:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/endhunger\/?page_id=129"},"modified":"2025-02-14T14:33:09","modified_gmt":"2025-02-14T19:33:09","slug":"partner-organizations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/endhunger\/resources\/partner-organizations\/","title":{"rendered":"Partner Organizations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Rhode Island Partners<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Rhode Island Community Food Bank<br \/>\n<\/strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/rifoodbank.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rhode Island Community Food Bank<\/a> is a not for profit organization providing quality food for distribution by its certified member agencies, community leadership, nutrition training, public information and effective solutions aimed at the elimination of hunger in Rhode Island.<\/p>\n<p><b>Rhode Island Department of Human Services<br \/>\n<\/b>Information on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, cash assistance, child care and medical assistance in Rhode Island through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhs.ri.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rhode Island Department of Human Services.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Rhode Island KIDS COUNT<br \/>\n<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/rikidscount.org\/\">Rhode Island KIDS COUNT<\/a> is a children&#8217;s policy and advocacy organization that provides information on child well-being, stimulates dialogue on children&#8217;s issues, and promotes accountability and action.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Economic Progress Institute<br \/>\n<\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.economicprogressri.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Economic Progress Institute<\/a> (formerly known as the Poverty Institute) is a respected authority on the issues impacting the economic vitality of both our residents and our state.&nbsp; The Institute is the only organization in Rhode Island that analyzes tax and budget policies on behalf of low-income populations, which is why the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities chose The Institute to be the Rhode Island affiliate to the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative.<\/p>\n<h2>Northeast Partners<\/h2>\n<h3><b>Connecticut<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Connecticut Association for Human Services<br \/>\n<\/b>Founded in 1910, <a href=\"http:\/\/cahs.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS)<\/a> is an independent, nonprofit public education, research and policy development organization committed to decreasing poverty, neglect and inequality in Connecticut. A key strength of CAHS is our ability to work in coalition with others. We bring together diverse interests &#8211; concerned citizens, policy makers, human service providers, corporate leaders, labor leaders, academics, state and municipal organizations, and religious organizations &#8211; to help ensure that all state residents have the opportunity to lead healthy, productive lives.<\/p>\n<p><b>End Hunger Connecticut!<br \/>\n<\/b>The mission of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.endhungerct.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">End Hunger Connecticut!<\/a> is to eliminate hunger in the state through legislative and administrative advocacy, outreach and public education. End Hunger Connecticut! is a member organization open to all who are committed in working to find a solution to end hunger.<\/p>\n<h3>Maine<\/h3>\n<p><b>Preble Street Maine Hunger Initiative<br \/>\n<\/b>The mission of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.preblestreet.org\/mainehungerinitiative.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Preble Street<\/a> is to provide barrier-free services to empower people experiencing problems with hunger and its causes such as poverty and homelessness and to advocate for solutions to those problems.&nbsp; Through direct emergency food work in their food pantry and soup kitchens, Preble Street meets basic needs of the most impoverished residents of Maine\u2019s largest urban area, providing 500,000 meals a year at Preble Street.<\/p>\n<h3>Massachusetts<\/h3>\n<p><b>Children\u2019s HealthWatch<br \/>\n<\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrenshealthwatch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Children\u2019s HealthWatch<\/a>&nbsp;is a nonpartisan network of pediatricians, public health researchers, and children\u2019s health and policy experts committed to improving children\u2019s health in America.&nbsp; They perform cutting edge research on the impact of public policy on the health, nutrition, and development of children ages zero to four.<\/p>\n<p><b>Project Bread <\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.projectbread.org\/site\/PageServer?pagename=home_page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Project Bread<\/a> is dedicated to alleviating, preventing and ending hunger in Massachusetts. Our goals are to make emergency food accessible to people who would otherwise go hungry; to educate, mobilize, and empower people through The Walk for Hunger and other avenues of action; to conduct research and develop innovative solutions to end hunger; and to advocate, in partnership with others, freedom from hunger across the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<h3>New Hampshire<\/h3>\n<p><b>Southern New Hampshire Services<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.snhs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SNHS<\/a> works to assist low-income participants to meet urgent and immediate individual and family needs, including health, nutrition, housing and employment-related assistance; to secure and retain meaningful employment, attain an adequate education, and make better use of available income; to ameliorate the causes of poverty within the community and to address the problems and barriers which block the achievement of self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n<h3>New York<\/h3>\n<p><b>Hunger Action Network of New York State<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hungeractionnys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hunger Action Network of New York State<\/a> is a unique membership-based network that represents 200 community-based organizations and low-income individuals throughout New York State with a direct stake in ensuring equitable income and food policies.&nbsp; The Network combines grassroots organizing with state level research to evaluate current policies, create implementation strategies, and to develop and promote innovative solutions to address the root causes of hunger, including poverty.<\/p>\n<p><b>Hunger Solutions New York<\/b><br \/>\nFor more than 25 years, <a href=\"http:\/\/hungersolutionsny.org\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hunger Solutions New York<\/a> has worked to create awareness about hunger.&nbsp; Their work encompasses education, advocacy, support and assistance in connecting New Yorkers to SNAP and other resources to end hunger. They also work towards the growth of other nutrition assistance programs including the School Breakfast Program (SBP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).<\/p>\n<h3>Vermont<\/h3>\n<p><b>Hunger-Free Vermont<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hungerfreevt.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hunger Free Vermont<\/a>, formerly the Vermont Campaign to&nbsp;End Childhood Hunger, is an education and advocacy organization with the mission to end the injustice of&nbsp;hunger and malnutrition for all Vermonters. They are a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing nutrition education and expanding access to nutrition programs that nourish Vermont\u2019s children, families,&nbsp;and communities.<\/p>\n<p><b>Vermont Foodbank<\/b><br \/>\nThrough a network of 270 food shelves, meals sites, senior centers, shelters, after-school programs, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vtfoodbank.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vermont Foodbank<\/a> runs programs that help feed as many as 86,000 Vermonters who need food assistance.<\/p>\n<h2>National Partners<\/h2>\n<p><b>Center on Budget and Policy Priorities<\/b><br \/>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbpp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center on Budget and Policy Priorities<\/a> is one of the nation\u2019s premier policy organizations working at the federal and state levels on fiscal policy and public programs that affect low- and moderate-income families and individuals. The Center conducts research and analysis to help shape public debates over proposed budget and tax policies and to help ensure that policymakers consider the needs of low-income families and individuals in these debates.&nbsp; The Center also develops policy options to alleviate poverty.<\/p>\n<p><b>Feeding America<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/feedingamerica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Feeding America<\/a> is the nation&#8217;s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Our mission is to feed America&#8217;s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger. Each year, the Feeding America network provides food assistance to more than 25 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors. Our network of more than 200 food banks serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Feeding America network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually.<\/p>\n<p><b>Food and Nutrition Services<\/b><br \/>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fns.usda.gov\/fns\/about.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Food and Nutrition Services<\/a> (FNS) administers the nutrition assistance programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The mission of FNS is to provide children and needy families better access to food and a more healthful diet through its food assistance programs and comprehensive nutrition education efforts. FNS has elevated nutrition and nutrition education to a top priority in all its programs.
