To show our appreciation to our community partners, the SNAP Outreach Project will be awarding 10 copies of Good and Cheap: Eat Well on $4 \/day<\/i><\/a>, by Leanne Brown, to one lucky organization every three months over the next year. Congratulations to The East Bay Food Pantry (EBFP), the winner of the first cookbook drawing. If you would like to enter your organization in a future drawing, click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n EBFP and its companion Thrift Shop serve clients from the East Bay area free of charge. In addition to the monthly \u201cshopping\u201d for food from the pantry, EBFP offers a suite of other food programs. These include Fresh Food Fridays where clients can receive produce, bread, and other fresh foods essential to their nutrition; cooking and nutrition classes; and food programs targeting low-income children, seniors, and disabled residents. EBFP strives to promote a nutrition conscious culture. Their Access Nutrition Initiative aims to consistently offer whole grains, high quality protein and dairy items, and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. The EBFP currently serves over 1000 East Bay households. Many of those who are assisted are working families with children or those hard hit by economic downturn. The pantry and thrift shop is run by a very small, part-time staff; they also rely on a large contingent of caring volunteers, some of whom are themselves clients of the food pantry.
