Break Into Engineering

Break into Engineering is an exciting, unique program for highly motivated high school students interested in exploring engineering. Students spend a portion of their school break immersed in a faculty research lab, gaining real-world experience in cutting-edge engineering fields.

Research Labs University of Rhode Island is a Research 1 institution, the highest research designation by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The College of Engineering leads innovative research in alternative energy, wearable technology, clean water, cybersecurity, nanotechnology, robotics, and more! 

Who Can Participate? This free program is made possible by a generous grant and is open to high school students in Grades 10-12 who are eager to discover engineering before college.

  • Dates: April 22-24, 2026 (you must attend all three days)
  • Time: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Open to: Students in Grades 10-12
  • Cost: FREE (lunch is provided)
