This pathway helps students strengthen their foundation in key math and science courses, setting them up for long-term success in any engineering discipline they choose to pursue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">During their first year, Pre-Engineering students benefit from personalized guidance from a dedicated engineering advisor. Together, they craft a balanced academic plan that includes essential math and science courses, along with general education or elective classes to maintain full-time status (typically 12 to 15 credits).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">Once the foundational coursework is successfully completed, students transition seamlessly into their preferred engineering major\u2014ready to thrive with a solid academic foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\"><strong>Join the COE Community from Day One<\/strong><br>As a Pre-Engineering student, you are a full member of the College of Engineering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Live in the Engineering Living &amp; Learning Community \u2013 Connect with fellow engineers and engage in a supportive residential environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in Engineering Student Organizations \u2013 Join clubs, design teams, and professional societies to gain hands-on experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access Facilities and Events \u2013 Explore makerspaces, labs, and all COE events while building your skills and network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Benefits of the Pre-Engineering Pathway<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Based on your academic background and interests, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to explore engineering by taking essential foundational courses in engineering, mathematics, and science.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll follow the curriculum for your engineering major of interest so your coursework aligns with your goals from the start.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a Pre-Engineering student, you\u2019ll be paired with an engineering advisor who will guide you every step of the way, tracking your progress and helping you make informed decisions.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fulwidth\"><strong>Transitioning into an Engineering Major<\/strong><br>To move from the Pre-Engineering Pathway into a designated engineering major, students must meet the following academic requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.00 or higher.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the following courses (including transfer credits) with a grade of C- or better in each:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MTH 141 \u2013 Calculus I<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CHM 101 \u2013 General Chemistry I and CHM 102 \u2013 General Chemistry I Laboratory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PHY 203 \u2013 Elementary Physics I and PHY 273 \u2013 Elementary Physics I Laboratory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students have a maximum of three semesters to fulfill these requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\"><strong>Important Note<\/strong><br>Many Pre-Engineering students are not yet ready to begin with Calculus I (MTH 141). Based on math placement and course sequencing, a five-year graduation plan is often recommended.
