{"id":89189,"date":"2026-07-23T08:59:26","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T12:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/engineering\/?page_id=89189"},"modified":"2026-07-23T09:29:42","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T13:29:42","slug":"navy-stem-crew","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/engineering\/student-resources\/undergraduate-students\/student-organizations\/navy-stem-crew\/","title":{"rendered":"Navy STEM Crew"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong>:&nbsp;<br>Open to any URI student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About: <\/strong>In 2017, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/navy-stem.uconn.edu\/\">University of Connecticut<\/a>&nbsp;(UConn) and the University of Rhode Island (URI) were awarded a grant from the Office of Naval Research to assist in expanding the naval science and technology workforces of Rhode Island and Connecticut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home to&nbsp;the&nbsp;Naval Submarine Base New London,&nbsp;the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, over 600 naval supply chain companies, and major production hubs for both&nbsp;Raytheon, and&nbsp;General Dynamics \u2013 Electric Boat, Rhode Island and Connecticut each play a vital role in the U.S. Navy\u2019s supply chain. With submarine production expected to rise significantly in coming years, demand is growing for a large workforce of talented STEM professionals in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an effort to meet this need, our program supports engineering students as they pursue Navy-related careers by connecting them with valuable research and professional development opportunities.
