As a graduate student in the M.A. program, you will work closely with our distinguished faculty of widely published, prize-winning scholars and writers, who will challenge you, encourage your interests, and support your professional goals.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: right;margin: 30px\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1361\/GreenShirt.jpg\" alt=\"Student listening to lecture\"><\/div>\n<p>The English Graduate Program educates students to enter a variety of professional fields. Our M.A. graduates have gone on to further graduate study and\/or employment in teaching, publishing, writing, film production, medicine, business, and law.<\/p>\n<p>Students with a B.A. enter the M.A. program. With a low faculty\/student ratio and a faculty committed to sharing their time and interests, our students receive personalized attention, are encouraged to publish their work and to deliver conference papers. Each spring, the English Department hosts a graduate student conference.<\/p>\n<h3>M.A. Program Options<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/english\/ma-non-thesis-option\/\">Non-Thesis Option<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/english\/m-a-thesis-option\/\">Thesis Option<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Part-Time and Full-Time Study<\/h3>\n<p>Students may choose to move through M.A. program in a two- to five-year time frame.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Full-time students take a minimum of 3 courses (9 credits) per semester.<\/li>\n<li>Part-time students take one or two courses (3\u20136 credits) per semester.<\/li>\n<li>Teaching assistants are considered full-time with registration in 6 credits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>M.A. in English Overview The Department of English offers a 30-credit Master of Arts program, designed to offer students the choice of a thesis or non-thesis option.
