Students don&#8217;t need to have any research experience to enter the program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What if I don&#8217;t know what I want to do after graduation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>That&#8217;s okay! Part of the URI ESTEEMED program is to allow students time to pursue various biomedical science-related topics and research to determine the best path for them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can I have another job while participating in URI ESTEEMED?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No, students will typically not be allowed to work another job during the academic year while participating in ESTEEMED due to the academic and program expectations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How many hours will I need to commit to the program each week during the academic year?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students will typically spend 10-15 hours a week on program activities, including weekly meetings, advising meetings, required study group sessions, ESTEEMED courses, and research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How long is the duration of the program?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The program will last during students&#8217; freshmen and sophomore years.* <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are the benefits of participating in URI ESTEEMED?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>See our description <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/esteemed\/overview\/\">HERE<\/a> under the <em>Scholar Benefits <\/em>tab<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are the expectations of URI ESTEEMED Scholars?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>See our descriptions <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/esteemed\/overview\/\">HERE<\/a> under the <em>Scholar Expectations<\/em> tab.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How many students are selected for the program each year?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Each year only 5 students will be selected to participate in the program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What qualities are considered important in the application statement?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students interested in the program should have a passion for science, problem solving, and wanting to make a difference in the world around them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>*Note: 2026-27 is the last year of funding for URI ESTEEMED, so students starting the program in Summer 2026 will only be in the program for one year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the URI ESTEEMED Scholarship and Education Program?
