It is now okay to mix your recyclables together. No new bin is necessary &#8211; use what you already have. (If you don\u2019t have a bin call 874-2840). Your recyclables will be mixed in the truck that picks them up. The new recycling plant can sort the materials automatically.<\/p>\n<p>For easy to understand instructions click on: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recycletogetherri.org\">www.RecycleTogetherRI.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Plastics<\/span> &#8211; <\/strong>All plastic containers up to 2 gallons, disregard the numbers and the triangle.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bottles &#8211; e.g. soda, shampoo, water<\/li>\n<li>Jugs &#8211; milk, juice, detergent<\/li>\n<li>Jars &#8211; mayo, peanut butter, jelly<\/li>\n<li>Tubs &#8211; butter, ice cream, margarine<\/li>\n<li>Plastic take out containers<\/li>\n<li>Iced coffee cups<\/li>\n<li>Yogurt containers<\/li>\n<li>Plastic egg cartons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Empty and Rinse, Don\u2019t crush, No straws, gently replace plastic caps and lids.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">No Styrofoam<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Paper<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Newspaper \u2022 phonebooks \u2022 envelopes<\/li>\n<li>Office paper \u2022 spiral notebooks<\/li>\n<li>Flattened corrugated boxes<\/li>\n<li>Wrapping and tissue paper<\/li>\n<li>Gift bags \u2022 paperback books<\/li>\n<li>Food boxes \u2022 junk mail<\/li>\n<li>Paper bags \u2022 magazines<\/li>\n<li>Paper towel tubes<\/li>\n<li>Egg cartons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No refrigerated and frozen food boxes. No greasy pizza boxes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Glass Containers<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jars &#8211; e.g. pasta sauce, jelly, baby food<\/p>\n<p>Bottles &#8211; soda, wine, beer<\/p>\n<p>Empty and Rinse, Remove metal lids and recycle both.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Metal Cans and Foil<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aluminum &#8211; e.g. cans, foil, pie pans<\/p>\n<p>Empty aerosol cans &#8211; hairspray, air freshener, whipped cream<\/p>\n<p>Tin cans &#8211; soup, vegetables, tuna, pet foods<\/p>\n<p>Empty and Rinse. Don\u2019t crush cans.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">No scrap metal. No wire hangers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Cartons<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Milk \u2022 soy milk \u2022 juice<\/li>\n<li>Soup \u2022 broth \u2022 juice boxes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Empty and Rinse<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">No juice pouches or straws.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Corrugated Cardboard<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Depending on the building you are in your corrugated cardboard will go into a cardboard compactor, a special cardboard recycling container, or will be co-mingled with other recyclables. Your building custodian will know.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Inkjet and Toner cartridges<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Call 874-2840 for a pickup. We will have stickers available to place on whatever container works for you. Just call us when your container is full.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Alkaline and Button Batteries<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Look for special battery recycling buckets in your building or call 874-2840 for a pickup.<\/p>\n<p>We can provide a sticker to place on whatever container works best for you.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Fluorescent light bulbs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>See your custodial staff. These bulbs can\u2019t go into the garbage. We have a designated area where they are taken for recycling.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Electronic Waste<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For old computers, monitors etc call 874-5468.&nbsp; For more information visit <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pss\/\">Property and Support Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Scrap Metal<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have 2 dedicated containers for scrap metal here on campus. If you are doing a large scale cleanout involving scrap metal please call 874-2840 for a dedicated scrap metal roll-off container.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">White Goods<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We recycle all white goods (refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, and lab equipment, etc).&nbsp; Call the URI property department at 874-5468 to place a work order for a pickup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recycling at URI just got easier.
