To propose changes to an existing course, access the Kuali Curriculum Management System (CMS) through the URI Office 365 Apps page. Select the existing course you wish to propose changes; then select “propose changes” from the right vertical menu. 

Course changes include: Code (3-letter prefix), Number (3-digit number), Title, Description, Method of instruction, Method of grading, Credits, Cross-listing, Prerequisite(s) and/or co-requisites, To qualify for general education (GE), Existing GE course changing student learning outcomes (SLOs), Create online version of existing course, 400-level to qualify for graduate credit, Remove (for graduate credit” from 400-level, and Course deletion.

If proposed changes to an existing course significantly impact course content and changes are proposed to the level (e.g., 200 to 300), title and description, or credits, or method of instruction, consider creating a NEW COURSE and select and submit a new course form. 

Please follow the instructions on the form carefully and completely and include if applicable:

• Existing Syllabus, with proposed changes indicated in tracked changes
• Proposed Curriculum Sheet/Academic Map with changes indicated in tracked changes
• Email acknowledgement(s) from other department(s)/college(s) (for cross-listing a course)
• Email acknowledgement(s) from other department(s)/college(s) addressing any overlap with other courses 

Each Department may have slightly different processes and curriculum committees, regardless, proposals must be approved by:

• Chair, Department/Program
• Chair, College Curriculum Committee
• Dean, College

Proposals are routed through the CMS through an electronic workflow. At various points in the workflow, the proposal is routed to the Faculty Senate Office to vet proposals for complete information or provide proposer access to correct any minor errors and/or address friendly amendments made by Curriculum Committees.
