Program participants can pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eligibility&nbsp;<\/span><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Must be U.S. citizens by the time of the national deadline (early October)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applicants must have a conferred bachelor&#8217;s degree or equivalent before the start of the grant period<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Language proficiency may be required<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Visit the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/us.fulbrightonline.org\/about\/eligibility\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">eligibility<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> page for more information<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">URI Campus Procedure<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please follow the steps below to create a competitive application. The 2027-28 Fulbright U.S. Student Competition will open on March 31, 2026, and applicants must submit their application by the Campus Deadline: <\/span><b>Monday, August 17, 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at 11:59 PM ET.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Visit the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/us.fulbrightonline.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fulbright U.S. Student Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> website to learn more about the opportunities for you. Have flexibility in country selection? Consider overlooked awards mentioned on the website<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Learn more about the different types of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/us.fulbrightonline.org\/countries\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">awards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; Open Study\/Research, English Teaching Assistant, Creative &amp; Performing Arts, and institution-specific opportunities&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As you search for awards, consider the following:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why are you applying to Fulbright?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How does Fulbright fit with my professional and personal goals\/interests?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why are you applying to your country of interest?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Complete the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdOgeTqmcKm7p-MSjfRoNpiK1kwS-bTsIjQmLLPgr6Bke__Sg\/viewform\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Student Interest Form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and be sure that you have marked \u2018Fulbright\u2019 to receive correspondence<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Understand the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/us.fulbrightonline.org\/applicants\/application-components\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">application components<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (more below!) and create a list of recommenders.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Attend as many Fulbright info sessions\/workshops (below) or see a recording to learn more about creating a competitive application<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All application materials are due in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apply.iie.org\/apply\/?sr=d2cbd969-c315-4023-aebe-308b52608434\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">application portal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by the Campus Deadline:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Monday, August 17, 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at 11:59 PM ET<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All applicants will be interviewed starting August 26. Applicants will have time afterwards to revise their application.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applicants must submit their final applications by the National Deadline:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Tuesday, October 6th<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at 5 PM ET<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applicants should submit their applications early!&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Application Components<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Application components may vary depending on the award type you select. Once you know to which opportunity you will apply, immediately create an application, look at the application components (link), and begin drafting your statement of grant purpose and essays. Remember, all application components should flow together to help craft your narrative for the reviewers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Letters of recommendation \u2014 you will need 3 letters of recommendation to be submitted by the <\/span><b>Monday, September 14, 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;at 11:59 PM ET<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Reach out to recommenders <\/span><b>early<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and choose those who can speak well to 1-2 points in the Faculty and Staff section below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Affiliation Letter \u2014 For Study\/Research Awards, an affiliation letter is required. Do your research early to make sure you\u2019re working with a potential host institution. Be sure you have a strong research question or study plan. Reach out to alums of that country, contact Fulbright Commissions or U.S. Embassies, and use LinkedIn and email to connect with potential host institutions directly. As this can be difficult, please contact (link) the Office of Fellowships to discuss your study\/research plans and outreach strategy before you begin contacting hosts.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Foreign Language Evaluation \u2014 your award may recommend or require a language. Consult the award description, the Foreign Language Forms section, and reach out to your language evaluator(s) early to ask their permission to be an evaluator.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty &amp; Staff<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a great opportunity for U.S. students to study, and research abroad. If you have a student that you\u2019d refer, please complete the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfT-ansZWesqRjHi1dQ-Hd38DhIc2T_D0ka7klvsnbYDjKl9Q\/viewform\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty and Staff<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> intake form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Writing a <\/span><b>Letter of Recommendation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is an important part of the application process as it provides reviewers with an overview of the applicants:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ability to carry out the project being proposed, including your intellectual and professional preparation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ability to adapt to the host country and to engage with the community there<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ability to represent the U.S. abroad and be a cultural ambassador<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the impact the Fulbright grant would have on you academically, professionally, and\/or personally<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We encourage applicants to choose 3 recommenders that can focus on 1 or 2 of the points above.
