Please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/financial-aid\/upcoming-federal-student-loan-changes\/\">Upcoming Federal Student Loan Changes<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-tabs-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-tabs  \">\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Academic Year 2025-26<\/h1>\n\n<p>The University of Rhode Island participates in the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Program. The University receives funds directly from the U.S. Department of Education and disburses (pays) them to eligible students. The student must file a <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)<\/a> for the academic year they would like to receive the loan(s) in order to be eligible for the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rates below are set by the federal government. The interest rate and origination fee pertains to Academic Year 2025-26. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PLUS Loan Interest rate \u2013 8.94% <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PLUS Loan Origination fee \u2013 4.228%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First time Graduate PLUS Loan Applicants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Complete the 3 steps below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Returning Graduate PLUS Loan applicants with an URI Master Promissory Note (MPN) on File<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete the credit check each year \u2013 Step 1 below<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the URI Supplemental Application each year \u2013 Step 3 below<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/plus-app\/grad\/landing\"><strong>Click here to complete a credit check for a PLUS Loan<\/strong><\/a>. Log in using student FSA-ID and password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>-If approved, <\/strong>continue with Steps 2 and 3. The borrower (student) will receive the results of a borrower-initiated credit check immediately. The credit check decision will be good for 180 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>-If denied, <\/strong>please review your options in your email. Please note you will need to enter: your URI ID #, your Social Security Number (SSN), and your date of birth.<br>b. Be sure to click the magnifying glass to specify Academic Year \u201c2026\u201d.<br>c. When requesting your PLUS Loan <strong>you must account for the 4.228% origination fee. Please use this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1tUOBpl4hFnEHyDLJyUWDfj524AtFTOCe1EdBKpPsloQ\/edit?usp=sharing\">resource<\/a>&nbsp;when it comes to calculating your PLUS Loan.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>PLUS Loan Denial Options<\/h1>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/appeal-credit\/demo\">Option 1: Click here to appeal the credit decision with the U.S. Department of Education<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The student needs complete both of the following by clicking the links below:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>URI <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/mpn\/grad\/landing\">Master Promissory Note (MPN)<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/plus-loan-credit-counseling\/\">PLUS Loan Credit Counseling<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may also appeal by calling 1-800-433-3243. The endorser code was provided to the student during the original credit check.
