2024 Virtual R.I. Food System Summit<\/h3>\n

Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024<\/h3>\n

The University of Rhode Island hosted the eighth annual Rhode Island Food<\/span> System Summit<\/span> on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, from 9 a.m. to noon<\/strong>. The event was attended by government, academic, business, and community partners to discuss how we can employ innovative practices within our food<\/span> system to support greater environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event was virtual and featured a range of speakers, including Janet Coit<\/strong>, the assistant administrator for fisheries at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (and former director of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management); Julianne Stelmaszyk<\/strong>, director of food<\/span> strategy for Rhode Island at the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation; and Beth Alaimo<\/strong> and Sara Wuerstle<\/strong> from Ocean Hour Farm, a farm in Newport that serves as a living example of sustainable agriculture and land stewardship.<\/p>\n

Following the summit<\/span>, the Rhode Island Food Center at URI and our partners will be hosting several follow-on<\/strong> events<\/strong> focusing on different topics discussed at the 2024 Food<\/span> System Summit<\/span>. You can view this information below.<\/p>\n
