minoring in queer studies
Beginning in the summer of 2012, the Gender and Sexuality Center forged an initiative to create an academic certificate, minor, and/or major in LGBTQ or Queer Studies. Since then, our staff coordinated the activities of a steering committee of students, faculty, and staff. This committee designed a plan for program implementation, including suggested courses, timeline, faculty, and structure recommendations. In fall of 2017, together with the Gender and Women’s Studies department, we launched URI’s Queer Studies minor. For more information on minoring in Queer Studies, please contact Annie Russell.
The GELS LLC is a student living and learning community built around exploring concepts surrounding gender and sexuality, addressing issues of equity, and improving the campus climate so that it may be a safe and supportive environment for all people at URI. The GELS LLC is open to all undergraduate students at URI and is housed in Ellery Hall. To learn more, visit our page or contact Annie Russell directly.
