Despite this, my mother fostered my love for the outdoors, taking me to zoos, parks, and encouraging exploration. My passion for science was ignited in high school by Mr. Hunt’s rigorous environmental science class, where I developed a strong work ethic and curiosity for scientific research.

Academic Journey
At the University of Rhode Island, I initially enrolled as an undeclared engineering major but soon switched to geological oceanography. My dedication to environmental science led to an opportunity to pursue graduate studies in climate science. During my undergraduate years, I engaged in independent research projects, including co-authoring accessible climate reports for the Northeastern U.S. region. These experiences enriched my understanding of environmental research and fostered essential skills such as teamwork, adaptability, managing multiple responsibilities, and effectively communicating scientific concepts to diverse audiences.

Graduate Studies and Research
Currently, I am a graduate teaching and research assistant in climate science under Dr. Ambarish Karmalkar at the University of Rhode Island. My research focuses on producing climate data predictions for the energy sector, aiming to integrate climate science into energy industry practices. I am passionate about bridging the gap between scientific research and practical solutions for global challenges.

Future Goals
I aspire to make a lasting impact on the scientific community and environmental policy by collaborating with industry leaders and policymakers. My goal is to mentor future scientists and promote environmental awareness, ensuring that my work contributes to a sustainable and resilient future. Every step of my journey has shaped me into the scientist I am today, and I am excited to continue this path, knowing that my efforts will help create a better tomorrow.

Email Address: pdugan@uri.edu

Degree program: Master of Science Year accepted: 2024 Advisor: Dr. Ambarish Karmalkar Research : Climatology, Regional Climate Projections Bio: Early Inspiration and EducationGrowing up in Marlton, NJ, a suburban town near Philadelphia, I found it challenging to connect with nature.
