<\/td>Obtain your visa<\/a><\/td>When you are admitted, the University of Rhode Island will generate a form, called Form I-20 (for the F-1 student visa) or the DS-2019 form (for the J-1 visa). You will use your form to schedule a visa interview at the United States embassy or consulate in your country.<\/td><\/tr>
<\/td>SEVIS Fee<\/a><\/td>Pay the SEVIS fee. Print and save a copy of the receipt and take it to your visa interview. Canadian citizens must pay their SEVIS fee before entering the U.S. and should carry the receipt with them.<\/td><\/tr>

 <\/td>Attend Welcome Week<\/a><\/td>International Welcome Week & Orientation is for all incoming international students and exchanges. Our orientation program provides opportunities to familiarize yourself with URI\u2019s campus, community, and resources for success.<\/td><\/tr>
 <\/td>Check your bill on e-Campus<\/a><\/td>Check your bill and on e-Campus and pay online or at the Bursar’s Office in Green Hall<\/a> by the due date to avoid late fees. <\/td><\/tr>

 <\/td>I-20\/DS-2019<\/td>You must carry the physical copy of your I-20\/DS-2019.<\/td><\/tr>
 <\/td>Passport<\/td>Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date the traveler will exit the U.S.<\/td><\/tr>

\u2713<\/th><\/th>Things to Keep in Mind<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
<\/td>I-20 or DS-2019<\/td>Once you receive your I-20 or DS-2019 form from OISS, you need to obtain your visa at the US embassy or consulate. Make sure your name on the I-20\/DS-2019 form matches the name on your passport.

<\/td>SEVIS Transfer<\/td>If you are coming to URI from another academic institution in the United States, transferring your existing SEVIS database record will move your sponsorship from that institution to the University of Rhode Island.<\/td><\/tr>
<\/td>Documents for visa interview<\/td>You must provide an I-20\/DS-2019, an admission letter, and proof of funding for your studies or program at the visa interview. <\/td><\/tr>
<\/td>Canadian citizens<\/td>Canadian citizens do not need a visa, but they will need to show the following four documents at the border: (1) a valid passport, (2) I-20\/DS-2019 form, (3) a copy of the SEVIS fee payment receipt, and (4) proof of financial support. <\/td><\/tr>
<\/td>Transfer students<\/td>Transfer students may enter the U.S. with the visa stamp from their previous institution.*
