When you are admitted, the University of Rhode Island will generate a form, the DS-2019 form (for the J-1 visa). You will use your form to schedule a visa interview at the United States embassy or consulate in your country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Source of Funding<\/th>More than 50% of funding is from an outside source such as a scholarship, fellowship, or government sponsorship<\/td><\/tr>
Proof of Funding<\/th>Student must show URI and the U.S. consulate proof of sufficient funding for the entire duration of his or her her academic program<\/td><\/tr>
Off-Campus Employment<\/th>One type of employment authorization is available for students on a J-1 visa. Academic Training (AT) authorization allows students to work off campus during studies or after the completion of studies. This work authorization is for up to 18 months or the length of study in the program, whichever is shorter. PhD students may be authorized for an additional 18 months. The length of approved AT is equal to the length of time spent studying in the U.S.<\/td><\/tr>
Dependents<\/th>Dependents in J-1 status may study full time and may apply for employment authorization.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
