Coordinating a program is also a great deal of work and a significant amount of responsibilty. The OIE is here to support you in this endeavor and provide guidance for your preparation and implementation of a successful program.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout right sans \"><p><br>\nA few reasons why students choose faculty-led programs are:&nbsp;&nbsp;<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"sans\">\n<li>The short duration of faculty-led programs allows students to have an experience abroad or domestically while not missing out on important academic requirement, campus events, family duties, or opportunities for additional income.<\/li>\n<li>Faculty-led programs are directed by URI faculty whom participants either already know or will meet in advance.<\/li>\n<li>Students know exactly what URI credit they will be receiving when they apply for the program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Role and Responsibilities of the Program Director<\/h2>\n<p>A minimum of two faculty or staff members will be required for all faculty-led programs. The program director teaches the academic aspects of the program, coordinates on-site program logistics, and provides student support throughout the program, usually with the support of an onsite contractor specializing in custom programs. In addition to the standard duties of teaching a course at URI, the responsibilities of the program director include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"sans\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul class=\"sans\">\n<li>Discussing plans for the proposal with the department or college prior to submitting a proposal.<\/li>\n<li>Submitting a Faculty-Led Program proposal which includes in-depth program details, budget, emergency information.<\/li>\n<li>Actively participating in program promotion and recruitment.<\/li>\n<li>Reviewing applications and selecting participants.<\/li>\n<li>Attending mandatory director training, CPR and First Aid trainings required by the Office of International Education.<\/li>\n<li>Leading informational meetings, a mandatory pre-departure orientation meeting and, if necessary, in-class meetings prior to departure.<\/li>\n<li>While abroad, serving as the primary point of contact for students (24\/7) in need of academic, cultural, and\/or personal guidance, both on a scheduled and emergency basis.<\/li>\n<li>Meeting with the Office of International Education upon completion of your program to reconcile finances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout right  \"><p><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p><strong>Literature on Faculty-Led Programs <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As faculty-led programs continue to grow, so does its presence in the literature of education abroad.
