All full time, degree-seeking international students are eligible for an F-1  or J-1 visa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students from Canada or Bermuda do not need to get a visa stamp in their passports. However, these students must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee, no later than three days prior to their departure and have a printed copy of their payment receipt available for the port of entry officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-card-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-card  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/global\/coming-to-uri\/visa\/student-visa-process\/\" title=\"\"><div class=\"cl-card-container text\"><div class=\"cl-card-text\"><h2>Student Visas<\/h2><p>The University will issue the document you need for your visa interview at the United States embassy or consulate in your country.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"cl-card-container button\">F-1 or J-1 Visas<\/div><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-card-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-card  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/global\/coming-to-uri\/visa\/international-transfer-students\/\" title=\"\"><div class=\"cl-card-container text\"><div class=\"cl-card-text\"><h2>SEVIS Transfer<\/h2><p>Students who already hold F-1 or J-1 status may transfer their SEVIS database record from their current sponsoring institution to URI.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"cl-card-container button\">Transfer Your Record<\/div><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Information for J-1 Student Interns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Internship programs are offered to graduate students involved in pre-doctoral research and undergraduate students who have a degree requirement for practical field experience. Internship programs provide unique opportunities for interns to gain practical experience on the process of conducting research in their academic field. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/global\/coming-to-uri\/international-j1-student-interns\/\">Learn more about J-1 student interns<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout  \"><h1>Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)<\/h1><p>SEVIS is a U.S. government database that allows schools and federal immigration agencies to exchange data on the status of international students.
