{"id":5784,"date":"2019-07-02T12:21:05","date_gmt":"2019-07-02T16:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/global\/?page_id=5784"},"modified":"2025-02-04T13:35:52","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T18:35:52","slug":"part-time","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/global\/international-students\/planning\/register-for-classes\/part-time\/","title":{"rendered":"F-1 and J-1 part-time attendance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"type-intro fullwidth\">If you are currently below a full course of study, your F-1\/J-1 status might be in jeopardy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full-time registration at URI means a minimum of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>12 credits for ALL undergraduate students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>9 credits for ALL graduate students who DO NOT have an assistantship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>6 credits for ALL graduate students who HAVE an assistantship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Any student registered for a number of credits below what is specified above will be perceived as having registered for a part-time semester without the appropriate authorization from the Office of International Students &amp; Scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below, see the list of the ONLY acceptable reasons to request Reduce Course Load approved by DHS sanctioned exceptions to the full course of study<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Illness or Medical Condition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initial Difficulty with the English Language<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initial Difficulty with Reading Requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unfamiliarity with American Teaching Methods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improper Course Level Placement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To Complete the Course of Study in Current Term\/Final Term<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School Vacations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the student\u2019s responsibility to submit a request for part-time attendance (<a href=\"https:\/\/sunapsis.uri.edu\/istart\/controllers\/start\/StartEngine.cfm\">Reduce Course Load<\/a>), in a timely manner.
