Due to visa restrictions, international students can only work 20 hours a week during the academic year. International students should contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/global\/office-of-international-students-and-scholars\/\">Office of International Students and Scholars<\/a> for additional information.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Summer Term:<\/strong> all graduate students can work up to 40 hours a week on hourly payroll during the summer term. Summer term begins the day after the commencement ceremony and ends the week before the Graduate Assistantship contracts begin.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-tabs-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-tabs  \"><section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Graduate Assistantships<\/h1><\/p>\n<p>Please reference the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/graduate-school\/hiring-department-resources-graduate-assistantships-hourly-payroll\/\">assistantship website<\/a> for additional information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pay rate:<\/strong> Stipend rate, depends on pay level. Contracts are per semester or full academic year appointments.&nbsp; Includes Graduate Teaching (GTA), Research (GRA) and Administrative (GAA) as either&nbsp;Full-time (20 hours) or Part-time (10 hours).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Credit Requirements:<\/strong> Graduate student must register for 6-12 graduate credits unless approved for ABD status in which case must register for 3 graduate credits each semester<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits:<\/strong> Contract includes benefits.&nbsp; Once approval is received (e.g. email acknowledgment), the hiring department may process as they normally would for hourly student payroll. <em>Graduate School approval is not needed.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Additional 10 Hours:<\/strong> Domestic students with a Graduate Assistantship or 20 hour\/week URI student employment requesting additional 10 hours during the academic year (<strong>only available to graduate students on level III)<\/strong> require Graduate School approval.&nbsp; TA Overload Request Form<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teaching Overload for Graduate Assistantships:<\/strong> If a graduate assistant is asked to teach a course beyond their assistantship, they must be paid on a teaching overload and not on hourly payroll.&nbsp;&nbsp;<span style=\"font-family: Hind, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 20px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400\">Please reference&nbsp;<\/span><a style=\"font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;font-family: Hind, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 20px\" href=\"https:\/\/www.urigau.org\/read-me\/#article-6\">section 6.4<\/a><span style=\"font-family: Hind, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 20px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;of the GAU contract.&nbsp;
