Our third lecture in the 2017 Vetlesen Distinguished Speaker Series will feature Dr. Patricia Yager, University of Georgia marine sciences professor. Her talk is titled, “Climate change impacts on Antarctic ecosystems.” Dr. Yager’s interdisciplinary research includes oceanography, marine microbial ecology, and biogeochemistry. She concentrates on the feedbacks between climate and marine ecosystems, and includes both fieldwork and modeling. Recent projects include investigating the effects of melting ice sheets on Arctic and Antarctic coastal productivity, and carbon sequestration by microbial communities in the Amazon River plume. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow Dr. Yager’s talk.
The Vetlesen Distinguished Speaker Series is presented by the URI Graduate School of Oceanography and sponsored by the G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation.
