Reducing the carbon footprint of URI’s Bay Campus

October 1, 2023

Congratulations to the entire Bay Campus Facilities team for reducing the carbon footprint of campus operations! Since 2020, nearly $1.4 million in projects—funded by the utility company (National Grid US/Rhode Island Energy)—have been completed. These projects, focused on energy efficient equipment and systems, have reduced annual campus electrical consumption by over 740,000 kWH and annual gas usage by 14,000 therms.

This is exciting news because that reduction continues every year moving forward for the life of the equipment. It’s also a great example of leveraging and cooperating with external partners to get capital assets replaced without impacting existing URI funds.
