Ocean View is a competition and exhibition that encourages youth to interpret the ocean through visual art. Students in grades kindergarten through high school are encouraged to participate.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ocean View Art Exhibition <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>There were close to 300 pieces of artwork submitted to this year&#8217;s competition! coastline, Rhode Island is nicknamed The Ocean State. The URI Graduate School of Oceanography wants to know: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What does &#8220;The Ocean State&#8221; mean to you? <\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the prompts below to inspire your art piece.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As someone living in the Ocean State, show us through your artwork what it means to you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A favorite memory?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An activity?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discovering new creatures?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How will it look in the future?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is its past?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exploring below the water\u2019s surface?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhode Island students in grades kindergarten through 12th are eligible to apply. Original artwork will be judged in four divisions:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grades K-2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grades 3-5&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grades 6-8<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grades 9-12<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Winners from the four divisions will receive prizes to support their artistic development and ocean interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To participate in the competition and exhibition, a completed commitment form must be submitted by <strong>February 28, 2025<\/strong>. Contact information for an adult sponsor must be included in the commitment form.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><span class=\"cl-button   disabled\" title=\"\">Commitment Form<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Artist\u2019s statement: all submissions must include a maximum 100-word statement that provides information on how you interpreted the theme through your artwork. A link to an online submission form will be provided in January.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants may submit one (1) original two-dimensional artwork. Pieces that will be accepted include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drawing &amp; Illustration&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Painting&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mixed media and collage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Photography&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Visual art submissions can be no larger than 24\u201d x 36\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Original artwork must be submitted, digital files or copies of artwork will not be accepted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All<\/strong> submissions will be part of an exhibition at the Art League RI (Pawtucket) gallery from April 5 &#8211; April 27, 2025. More information on when and where to submit artwork will be shared with those who complete a commitment form. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The twelve award-winning original pieces of artwork will be framed and showcased at the University of Rhode Island\u2019s Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) following the exhibition for at least one year. As part of this collection on display at GSO, your original artwork will be viewed by the public, students, staff, and faculty. After one year, you have the option to donate your artwork to GSO to continue to be displayed on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions?
