Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are anthropogenic organic compounds that don\u2019t degrade in the environment. They can be transported far from sources and are known to accumulate in wildlife and humans. Research topics in the Lohmann Lab include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div class=\"fullwidth\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/steep\/steep-research\/detection-tools\/\"><strong>novel detection tools <\/strong><\/a>to measure poly- and perfluorinated substances in the environment, via the NIEHS Superfund Research Program: <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/steep\/\">Sources, Transport, Exposure, and Effects of PFASs (STEEP)<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"fullwidth\">the use of polyethylene <strong><a title=\"Passive Samplers\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/lohmannlab\/welcome\/passive-samplers\/\">passive samplers <\/a><\/strong>to measure organic pollutants in the environment<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"fullwidth\">the use of POPs and PFAS to trace and understand food webs and biogeochemical cycles<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"fullwidth\">determining the sources and mass fluxes of&nbsp;black carbon&nbsp;in sediment<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<h3>Join the lab<\/h3>\n<p>The Lohmann Lab welcomes inquiries from prospective graduate students (both MS and PhD) and undergraduate students.
