Adding an official university logo to your publication can be done appropriately in countless ways. However, there are a few proscribed effects. When placing the graphic in your document, please don\u2019t\u2026<\/p>\n

- Skew the image<\/strong> or change its height-to-width ratio (\u201cSilly Putty\u201d). Even a slight distortion will look off.<\/li>\n
- Change the colors.<\/strong> Only white, black or the official URI Navy and Gold are permitted.<\/li>\n
- Place it on a \u201cnoisy\u201d image<\/strong> or patterned background. Legibility of the logo is king.<\/li>\n
- Make it smaller<\/strong> than a postage stamp. If you can cover the logo with a dime, it\u2019s too small.<\/li>\n
- Make it bigger<\/strong> than a dollar bill. JPGs and PNGs will look \u201cjagged\u201d or \u201cfuzzy\u201d if too big.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The \u201cNo-fly\u201d Zone<\/h3>\n

\nThis deserves special mention. Official logos may not be used as a decorative element, obscured, crowded, or juxtaposed to another graphic so as to create a hybrid mark. The logo must be kept away from other elements in the layout. That clear distance\u2014a \u201cno fly\u201d zone\u2014is relative to the size of the logo and measured by the letter “o.”<\/p>\nWhich file type should I use?<\/h3>\n
PNG files<\/strong> have a transparent background. PNGs are best for placing over an image or solid color, especially on Web pages.<\/p>\n

\nJPG-formatted files<\/strong> are relatively small. To reduce the file size of an email or Web page, use JPG.<\/p>\n
