Undoubtedly, the positive innovations in curriculum delivery that developed this year will have a place in post-pandemic academic operations.<\/p>\n

In the 2019-2020 Academic Year, 12 students earned advanced degrees (4 Ph.D., 4 Master of Science and 4 Master of Oceanography). It was a very strong year for recruiting as GSO welcomed 33 students this fall (13 Ph.D., 8 Master of Science and 13 Master of Oceanography). In total, 89 students are currently enrolled in graduate-degree programs.<\/p>\n

In the fall of 2019, Assistant Professor Veronique Oldham and Lecturer Martha McConnell joined the faculty. Professor John King retired in spring, 2020, after 39 years of service.<\/p>\n

In March, 2020, to respond to the pandemic and continue its academic mission, GSO abruptly transitioned classes, seminars, and thesis and dissertation defenses to online delivery and formats.<\/p>\n

The 33rd Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Oceanography (SURFO), sponsored by the National Science Foundation, was delivered online with great success.<\/p>\n

Network communications enabled expansion of classrooms and seminars by involving speakers from around the world who shared their expertise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
