{"id":183504,"date":"2024-02-27T16:00:18","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T21:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/?p=183504"},"modified":"2024-02-27T16:00:19","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T21:00:19","slug":"students-invited-to-join-first-innovation-and-entrepreneurship-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/news\/students-invited-to-join-first-innovation-and-entrepreneurship-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Students invited to join first Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Challenges range from rooftop gardens to robot hotels, with prizes offered to student innovators across colleges this spring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Feb. 26, 2024 \u2013 University of Rhode Island students are invited to join the University\u2019s inaugural Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge sponsored by 401 Tech Bridge, a division of the URI Research Foundation, and funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/401techbridge.org\/rise-up-program\/\">RISE-UP<\/a>. Innovation challenges are offered to students across programs, interests and colleges, from a challenge to build a green rooftop utopia on Lippitt Hall to a challenge to create underwater hotels for robots, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative is drawing multidisciplinary participation across colleges at URI, as well as the Honors Program, with a variety of challenges centered on the theme of sustainability. The new program invites URI students to contribute to the University\u2019s 10-year strategic plan and joins a culture of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2024\/01\/inaugural-faculty-fellows-announced-in-401-tech-bridge-program-promoting-innovation-and-entrepreneurship-across-campus\/\">cross-disciplinary entrepreneurship and innovation<\/a> at the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Challenges are open to students\u2014both undergraduate and graduate\u2014from any program or major. Students can apply for any challenge and do not need to be a student in any sponsoring college or program. Teams can be composed of one to six members and are eligible to enter multiple challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prizes for the challenges range from $250 to $2,000, with challenge offerings continuing to be updated. The Graduate School of Oceanography is sponsoring the following challenge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Underwater Hotels for Robots<\/strong><br>Students are invited to propose a design of a modular hotel for autonomous underwater robots in different sizes and shapes.\u00a0<br><em>Sponsor: Graduate School of Oceanography<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>Read about the other program challenges on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2024\/02\/students-invited-to-join-first-innovation-and-entrepreneurship-challenge\/\">Rhody Today<\/a>.
