The University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) has been awarded $3.2 million over five years by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) to continue hosting the NSF Ocean Observatories Initiative Facilities Board (OOIFB)<\/a> Administrative Support Office (ASO). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the direction of GSO\u2019s Holly Morin<\/a>, the OOIFB ASO will provide administrative management, coordinate outreach and communications, and organize workshops and other events to engage and inform a multidisciplinary community of scientists, engineers, modelers, educators, and other stakeholders. These efforts correlate with NSF\u2019s strategic goals and objectives to advance research and innovation, translate knowledge into solutions, and accelerate discovery and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OOIFB’s recent Pioneer Mid-Atlantic Bight Array Community Workshop<\/a> at Old Dominion University engaged over 90 people in-person and online to talk about the exciting science and education opportunities now available.
<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Established in May 2017, the OOIFB provides independent input on the management and operation of the Ocean Observatories Initiative<\/a>, an NSF-supported, science-driven ocean observing network that delivers real-time data from more than 900 instruments to address critical science questions regarding the global ocean. Through this award, the OOIFB, with support from the ASO, will continue to broaden NSF OOI data access as well as inform and inspire researchers, educators, and the general public about the collaborative research and scientific discoveries that can be achieved through the NSF OOI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
