The award recognizes \u201ca stellar achievement that supports one or more of NASA\u2019s core values.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"159\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Breusing-e1734617293644.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187910\" style=\"width:200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Marine Research Associate <strong>Corinna Breusing<\/strong> earned the URI Research and Scholarship Excellence Award. Recipients are chosen for their commitment to their studies, their college, the university community in general, and for serving as a positive role model and resource to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Sea Grant Program announced that <strong>Diana Fontaine,<\/strong> Ph.D. \u201924, and Ph.D. candidate <strong>Asta Habtemichael<\/strong> were selected to join the 2025 class of Knauss Marine Policy Fellows. Fontaine will work in the legislative branch, Habtemichael will be in the executive branch.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"140\" height=\"182\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Fontaine-1-e1734617336186.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187915\" style=\"width:200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Fontaine<\/strong> also received a \u201cCertificate for Excellence for Outstanding Contributions to Graduate Professional Development\u201d from the URI Graduate School in recognition of her work as a URI graduate assistant and writing consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"154\" height=\"192\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Habtemichael-e1734617896940.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187917\" style=\"width:200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Habtemichael<\/strong> was also recognized as an Emerging Coastal Leader through a new awards program offered by the URI Coastal Institute for URI graduate students from interdisciplinary backgrounds who aspire to pursue careers in coastal, marine, and estuarine science and management.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"684\" height=\"855\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Lohmann-mug-shot-e1734618366296.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187921\" style=\"width:200px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Lohmann-mug-shot-e1734618366296.jpg 684w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Lohmann-mug-shot-e1734618366296-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Lohmann-mug-shot-e1734618366296-364x455.jpg 364w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Lohmann-mug-shot-e1734618366296-500x625.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 684px) 100vw, 684px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Professor <strong>Rainer Lohmann<\/strong> received a Fulbright Specialist Program award to deepen the study of contaminants in Icelandic water systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, Lohmann was also recognized by the scholarly journal ES&amp;T Letters with outstanding reviewer awards for his work in 2022 and 2023. These awards go to scientists who perform peer review in their area of expertise to a consistently high standard, in a timely fashion, and on a frequent basis throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"344\" height=\"430\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Fulfer_WTF.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187923\" style=\"width:200px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Fulfer_WTF.jpg 344w, https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Fulfer_WTF-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Victoria Fulfer, <\/strong>M.S. \u201919, Ph.D. \u201924, earned the 2024 URI Graduate School\u2019s Outstanding Doctoral Research Award. Fulfer focused primarily on marine plastics in Narragansett Bay, studied coastal debris dynamics in Vietnam through a Fulbright Research Scholarship, and analyzed microplastic samples from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"184\" height=\"230\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Rubin-e1734617724260.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187919\" style=\"width:200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Associate Dean of GSO Research <strong>Kenna Rubin<\/strong> received the Distinguished Service Award from the Geochemical Society for extraordinary service to the society and the broader geochemical community.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"130\" height=\"162\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/Slead-e1734617642481.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187920\" style=\"width:200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Sandra Slead,<\/strong> M.S. \u201924, received AGU\u2019s Outstanding Student Presentation Award for her high quality research and the ability to effectively communicate it.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"209\" height=\"261\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/916\/J.P.-Walsh-1-e1734617810685.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187918\" style=\"width:200px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>As part of the Fulbright Specialist Program, Professor <strong>J.P.
