Critical thinking, theory, and community and global responsibility are integral to these methods. GWS focuses on the interrelationship between the personal and political, supporting and promoting feminist teaching, learning, research, scholarship, creative activity, and professional and community service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gender and Women\u2019s Studies major requires 30 credits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Required core courses (15 credits)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>GWS 150: Introduction to Gender and Women\u2019s Studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GWS 300: Field Experience in Gender and Women\u2019s Studies<br>OR GWS 320: Feminist Thought Into Action<br>OR ITR 301\/302: Field Experience I\/II<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GWS 310: Race, Class, and Sexualities in Women\u2019s Lives<br>OR 325: International Women\u2019s Issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GWS 315: Introduction to Feminist Theories and Methodologies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GWS 400: Critical Issues and Feminist Scholarship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elective courses (15 credits)<\/strong><br>The remaining 15 credits may be selected from other <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gws\/academics\/courses\/\">GWS courses<\/a>, or approved <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gws\/academics\/interdisciplinary-electives\/\">interdisciplinary courses<\/a> offered through other academic departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen Ed courses may also be used to meet requirements of the GWS major or minor when appropriate. No more than 12 credits within the same course code can be used for Gen Ed credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GWS Advisory Committee recommends that students majoring in Gender and Women\u2019s Studies either take an additional 18 credits in one area as a minor or pursue a double major so as to combine their interests in Gender and Women\u2019s Studies with a traditional discipline.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview At URI, Gender and Women\u2019s Studies uses feminist and interdisciplinary methods to teach, conduct research, and expand existing knowledge.
