Our courses emphasize the application of rhetoric according to the following five dimensions of learning and production:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rhetorical Knowledge<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students\u00a0<b>identify<\/b>\u00a0varied rhetorical situations calling for a wide range of appropriate responses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students\u00a0<b>demonstrate<\/b>\u00a0a command of different rhetorical theories and approaches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students\u00a0<b>apply<\/b>\u00a0various rhetorical theories, putting them into practice in a range of situations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students\u00a0<b>evaluate<\/b>\u00a0the appropriateness of rhetorical choices in light of anticipated consequences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Process and Collaborative Textual Evaluation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Student writers produce documents with other writers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students evaluate and respond to each other\u2019s work using varied roles (peer, tutor, coach, editor).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students demonstrate respectful negotiating behaviors during collaborative textual production (listening attentively, airing all viewpoints, valuing difference, coming to consensus or dissensus, dividing labor fairly, balancing competing agendas, expectations, and values).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Craft, Genre, and Editing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students arrange the organization of their texts appropriate to the rhetorical situation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students can recognize and self-edit errors in written discourse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student writers produce complex texts with correctness in syntax, grammar, usage, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students demonstrate coherence and cohesion in written discourse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student writers consider, apply, and control stylistic options (prose style, figurative language, voice, register, tone, word choice, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Textual Production and Delivery<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students will choose effective strategies for processes, forum, genre, and technological tools for a range of situations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student writers will design visually effective texts for a range of situations using appropriate technology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student writers will identify and evaluate options for text production, circulation, and delivery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will use current information technologies to produce and deliver their texts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflective Learning<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students consciously synthesize and integrate insights from one project into another.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students articulate a statement of their identities as writers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professional and Public Writing Learning Outcomes The Department of Writing and Rhetoric prioritizes work that gets things done.
