Here are some highlights:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/harrington\/meet\/emily-diamond\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8577 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/harrington\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2164\/Emily-Diamond-v8-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/artsci\/news\/emily-diamond-award\/\">Dr. Emily Diamond<\/a>, assistant professor of Communication Studies and Marine Affairs, published two articles and gave a presentation this year, all focusing on climate change and clean energy in the United States. For her most recent publication, Diamond interviewed members of a conservative conservationists group to understand how people reconcile identity conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>Diamond also published another article about messaging for clean energy policy and gave a presentation about messaging for offshore wind development at the NAWEA\/WindTech Conference in September.<\/p>\n<p>Publications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diamond, E. &amp; J. Damato). 2022 NAWEA\/WindTech Conference, Newark, Delaware (September 2022).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7610 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/harrington\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2164\/MattHodler-v1-square-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/artsci\/news\/researchers-explore-the-racial-and-gender-politics-of-barstool-sports\/\">Dr. Matt Hodler<\/a>, assistant professor of Communication Studies and Sports Media, and Kyle Kusz, professor of English and Gender and Women\u2019s Studies, co-wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1123\/ssj.2022-0075\">a recent publication that took a cultural studies approach to analyze the role of Barstool Sports in cultural politics.<\/a> Their critique focused on \u201cThe Barstool Documentary Series\u201d to understand the company\u2019s role in far-right media and rhetoric. Hodler said they kept coming back to the topic of Barstool Sports because his students consumed their content.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this publication, Hodler gave two presentations for the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport Conference in November, one related to far-right tactics in sports fandom and another focusing on transgender athlete Lia Thomas. He also received an honorable mention for the 2022 Sociology of Sport Journal Article of the Year for an article he co-wrote last year.<\/p>\n<p>Publication:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kusz, K. and Hodler, M.R. The Digital Classroom in the Augmented Forest: Rhetorical Field Methods<br \/>\nfor Place-Based Teaching and Research, University of Rhode Island, North<br \/>\nWoods Small Grants Opportunity, 2022.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/harrington\/meet\/ammina-kothari-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8750 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/harrington\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2164\/AmminaKothari-square-v1-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Ammina Kothari\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/harrington\/meet\/ammina-kothari-2\/\">Dr. Ammina Kothari<\/a>, the director of the Harrington School and professor of journalism, published <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1080\/10810730.2022.2148021\">research on people&#8217;s intent to get vaccinated during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/a> The study examined how the people&#8217;s intent to get vaccinated changed around the emergency authorization of the first COVID-19 vaccines. They found that people&#8217;s willingness to get vaccinated decreased around the time of the authorization of the first COVID-19 vaccines before it increased again. There was also significant difference based on age, gender and trust in health officials among those who refused vaccination or were undecided.<\/p>\n<p>This year, Kothari also presented her research on how media representation of LGBTQ+ individuals affects attitudes and behaviors toward them and how young adults use social media for mental health support.<\/p>\n<p>Publication:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schieferdecker, D.
