In just one semester at the Harrington School, she noticed her skills improved as she took various film classes. She is eager and ready to continue taking film production courses to work towards her dream of directing.

What is your major?
My major is film media, and I am in the process of declaring another major in studio arts.

What brought you to URI?
I am from Smithfield, Rhode Island, and I knew I wanted to stay close to my hometown. My grandparents live in Narragansett, so I always grew up by the beach. URI has an amazing film program with all its equipment, classes, and opportunities. After touring, I knew this was the place for me.

What are some things you wish you knew?
I wish I knew more about editing. As a film major a lot of editing is required, and I came into this program knowing nothing. I think overtime I’ve gotten better, but I could definitely improve my skills. Overtime, practice and asking for help is very beneficial.

What was your favorite memory/class?
For my first semester, my favorite class was FLM110. This is a production based class where my experience with editing started, and I was challenged both that way and through presentations. In this class I was given the opportunity to write and direct my first ever short film, Umbrella. That was hands down my favorite memory. Though we faced some challenges, I was so grateful for the experience. I saw it in my head, and am very proud of the execution. I’ll never forget when it was chosen to produce in my class. With this memory, I’ve confirmed my passion and what I love to do.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to an incoming freshman?
My advice to incoming freshmen is make good connections with your professors. They could be just as good advisors and mentors. Going to them for their advice on important topics like classwork, course selection, etc is so fulfilling. I went to my professors, and my first semester would not have been as easy if I hadn’t. I talked to them about their experience in the industry, and they guided me through classes I should take, when to take them.

What are you most looking forward to in future semesters?
I’m looking forward to more opportunities in film production! Currently I’m interested in making storyboards, and I’d love to keep directing more in the future. Creating is what I love, so being able to in any way is something I’ll always look forward to.

[96,12
30
post-14389","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-film-media","category-news","tag-film-media
["GET
