It took a top prize at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in 2008. &#8220;I am drawn to stories about people who feel disconnected from life and those around them, people in need of love and care,&#8221; Smith said. A move to London, a master&#8217;s degree in screenwriting, and a second prize-winning screenplay, &#8220;Fix You Up,&#8221; followed.
