This office is responsible for enhancing the security, resilience, and reliability of the nation&#8217;s cyber and communications infrastructure. CS&amp;C works to prevent or minimize disruptions to critical information infrastructure in order to protect the public, the economy, and government services. The National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC), which falls under CS&amp;C, serves as a 24\/7 cyber monitoring incident response and management center, and as a point of cyber and communications incident integration for the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to her work at Homeland Security, Ms. Stempfley served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), where she was responsible for supporting the director in decision-making, strategy development, information assurance, and management of information technology resources. She has received numerous awards for her government service including being named as one of <em>Information Week&#8217;s<\/em> top 50 government CIOs, and has over 10 years of experience in communications and information technology systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About this Lecture<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Deputy Assistant Secretary Stempfley will discuss DHS&#8217;s mission to enhance the security, resiliency, and reliability of the nation&#8217;s cyber and communications infrastructure, paying special attention to the role of privacy protection in that mission. She will briefly touch on the Fair Information Practice Principles of (1) transparency, (2) individual participation, (3) purpose specification, (4) data minimization, (5) use limitation, (6) data quality and integrity, (7) security, and (8) accountability and auditing.
