You&#8217;ll learn how to read critically, write persuasively, and think creatively. You\u2019ll use your study of the past to better understand the present and engage with the challenges we face in the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We offer a four-year bachelor\u2019s degree as well as a five-year ABM (accelerated bachelor\u2019s to master\u2019s) degree in history. These degrees include a capstone course sequence that provides an outstanding research experience. The first course (401, 441, or 481) gives students the skills they need to conduct original research during their undergraduate research seminar (495). These two courses are taught in consecutive semesters by the same instructor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><a class=\"cl-button  block-level\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/history\/upcoming-seminars\/\" title=\"\">upcoming seminar topics<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><a class=\"cl-button  block-level\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/history\/guide-to-400500-level-courses\/\" title=\"\">400|500 Level courses<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minor in History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Undergraduate students may minor in history by completing 18 credits in the field. Students also have the option to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/programs\/program\/underwater-archaeology-minor\/\">minor in underwater archaeology<\/a>.
