You will go through the steps required to produce a history research paper, and then you will write it. You will learn research methods, historiography, and how to formulate your own hypothesis that will end in a thesis. You will work with primary and secondary sources. The end result of the capstone is a &#8220;professional&#8221; history paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fullwidth\">Certain minors offer hands-on experience, most notably our <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/catalog\/underwater-archaeology-minor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Underwater Archaeology<\/a> minor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Archaeology Field Schools<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Professors Bridget Buxton and Rod Mather periodically offer underwater archaeology field schools during summer or j-term.\u00a0Some locations are Israel, Croatia, and Belize. Professors Rod Mather and Catherine DeCesare also offer an on-campus terrestrial field school in conjunction with the Department of Anthropology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Courses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can complete directed studies on a topic of their choice. Some recent topics have included an oral history of WWII with local veterans, and the reading of medieval texts while learning Latin and paleography<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/career.uri.edu\/channels\/college-of-arts-sciences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Career and Experiential Learning<\/a> is a good place for students to begin their search for an internship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another option is for students to contact one of the<a href=\"https:\/\/rihrab.com\/directory-of-rhode-island-historical-records-repositories\/\"> Rhode Island Historical and Preservation Societies<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bachelor of Arts in History Experiential Learning As a history major at URI, your experience will take you beyond the classroom and help you engage with the field in unique ways.
