{"id":235,"date":"2016-06-14T12:09:17","date_gmt":"2016-06-14T16:09:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/housing\/?page_id=235"},"modified":"2024-04-23T11:10:21","modified_gmt":"2024-04-23T15:10:21","slug":"graduate-housing-frequently-asked-questions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/housing\/apply\/graduate-housing-frequently-asked-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Housing Frequently Asked Questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How many people may live in an apartment in the University Graduate Village Apartments?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Per the RI State Fire Marshal and the URI Department of Safety and Risk Management, the maximum number of people that may live in a University Graduate Village Apartment are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2-bedroom apartment: 4 persons<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">3-bedroom apartment: 5 persons<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are pets permitted in the University Graduate Village Apartments?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Only fish in tanks that are 20 gallons or less are allowed in any on-campus housing. Emotional Support Animals must be approved in advance by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/disability\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Disability, Access and Inclusion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Service Animals must be registered with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/disability\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Disability, Access and Inclusion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is there mail service at the University Graduate Village Apartments?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Each apartment is assigned a US Postal Service mailbox located at the entrance to the University Graduate Village Apartments. There is also a United States Post Office located nearby at 101 Briar Lane, Kingston, RI 02881-9998.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do the individual apartments have laundry machines?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> No, but there are laundry rooms located on the first floor of each building at the doors across from the bike racks. Each laundry room has two washing machines and two dryers. Laundry rooms must always be kept locked. Children should not use laundry rooms as play areas, smoking is prohibited, do not leave clothes unattended. URI is not responsible for personal items. If a machine malfunctions, please contact automatic laundry 617.969.4340 or visit their website: Automaticlaundry.com. If you\u2019d rather hang your laundry to dry, clothes lines are located throughout the grounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is parking available at the University Graduate Village Apartments?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Yes, there is a parking lot surrounding the apartment complex. Residents with cars can purchase a parking permit from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/transportation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Transportation and Parking Services<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Cars that are not registered may receive warnings, tickets, fines, and risk being towed at the owner\u2019s expense. Vehicles are not permitted on the walkways between the apartment buildings for any reason, except for loading and unloading your car, and only for a period of no more than 20 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How do I request maintenance and pest control?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> For assistance with the internet, please contact URI Information &amp; Technology Services (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/itservicedesk\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/itservicedesk<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">; 401-874-4357; Carothers Library, Room LL19). For all other maintenance and pest control requests, please contact the GHO via email, gradhse@etal.uri.edu or by telephone, 401.874.2232. Please be aware that by submitting a maintenance request, you are granting maintenance technicians permission to enter your apartment to perform the work. You do NOT need to be present when the technician(s) arrive, unless specified. Maintenance requests can take up to 30 business days to be completed, but please contact the GHO for updates on more serious or time-sensitive requests.
