Shingles

Age 60 or over?  Shingles Vaccine is Available.

The Shingles Vaccination is a covered benefit for State of RI members covered through the State’s UnitedHealthcare plan for members age 60 or older.

The vaccination may be obtained by:

1) Participating Physician’s office:
While the vaccination can be administered at the physician’s office, because the vaccine must be refrigerated, not all Physician’s offices carry it.

2) Contracted Pharmacy for administering the Shingles Vaccine:
Effective September 1, 2012, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Walgreens Pharmacy,  and *Mollen Immunization clinics are contracted with UnitedHealthcare to administer the Shingles vaccine. Members age 60 and older are eligible.  *(retail locations in Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club)

3) Participating Urgent Care/Walk-in Center:
Most of the urgent care centers that carry the shingles vaccine stock limited quantities so call ahead and make an appointment.  All Urgent Care Centers require a doctor’s prescription. When you call for an appointment please make sure you tell them that you are covered by State of RI UnitedHealthcare in order to confirm coverage.  The vaccine is covered for UHC members 60 or over who are on the State’s plan.  Some Urgent Care Centers may charge you a co-pay so you may want to verify that in advance.
