{"id":2829,"date":"2025-05-13T16:16:57","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T20:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/hr\/?page_id=2829"},"modified":"2025-05-23T13:20:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T17:20:47","slug":"eligibility-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/hr\/benefits\/retirement\/eligibility-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Eligibility Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Guidelines<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After a 2-year waiting period, you are eligible to participate if you are a faculty or staff employee on continued appointment with a workload of at least&nbsp;<strong>20 hours<\/strong>&nbsp;per week and<strong>&nbsp;six months or more in duration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The two-year waiting period may be waived if you meet one of the following conditions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You own an institution sponsored 403(b) or 401(a) retirement annuity (employer contributed), or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have 5 years of experience in your field, not including work done while a graduate student and you are\u00a0<strong>at least 30 years of age<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Active members of the\u00a0 Employees\u2019 Retirement System of Rhode Island (ERSRI) may elect to remain in ERSRI. This decision must be made within 60 days of becoming eligible for participation in the 403(b) retirement plan.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you become eligible to participate in this retirement plan, your contribution will be a minimum of 5% of your biweekly salary.&nbsp; URI will contribute 9% biweekly, and all monies will be directed to an individual retirement account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Appointments to complete paperwork to waive the two-year waiting period must be scheduled within 30 days from your date of hire.
