Family life educators use a variety of methods and settings to provide training to people who want to be more effective family members. A few examples of how FLE can strengthen families include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anger management and co-parenting workshops for divorcing couples with children<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting family-friendly workplace policies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public service campaigns to increase awareness of the importance of strong marriages and families<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing curriculum and teaching classes for parents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncfr.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Council on Family Relations<\/a> (NCFR) has approved the undergraduate academic program of Human Development and&nbsp;Family Science for provisional certification of students. As an undergraduate student, you&nbsp;may apply for a provisional certificate to become a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provisional certification is available to those with a bachelor&#8217;s degree and coursework in all ten family life content areas. URI&#8217;s Human Development and\u00a0Family Science department has identified the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/human-development\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1267\/Final_U_of_Rhode_Island_UG_Checklist_2024.docx_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pre-approved courses<\/a>\u00a0that qualify students\u00a0for this provisional certification from NCFR. (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1267\/CFLE-Substitution-for-HDF-437.pdf\">CFLE Substitution for HDF 437<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To obtain your certification, once have graduated&nbsp;you can&nbsp;follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncfr.org\/cfle-certification\/become-certified\/abbreviated-application-process\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abbreviated Application Process<\/a> on the NCFR website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HDF students may become members prior to graduation and have two options to become members prior to provisional certification and pay the member rate for the Abbreviated Application fee (student membership and two journals or student membership and one journal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For further information contact: <a title=\"Phyllis Carella Penhallow\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/human-development\/meet\/phyllis-carella-penhallow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phyllis C.
