{"id":2679,"date":"2017-09-01T11:26:40","date_gmt":"2017-09-01T15:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/humanities\/?page_id=2679"},"modified":"2026-01-28T18:46:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T18:46:16","slug":"the-winnie","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/humanities\/the-winnie\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;The Winnie&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Awarded to outstanding collaborative projects grounded in the humanities, this award was established in 2017 in recognition of Dean Winifred Brownell\u2019s long-standing support of the humanities.<\/p>\n<p>This collaborative grant, in the amount of $3,000, will be awarded towards research or teaching projects that include humanities content. <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Priority will be given to public humanities projects. Tenure-track <\/span>faculty, ad hoc continuing lecturers, and graduate students are eligible to apply, but any projects should include at least one faculty member in the humanities.<\/p>\n<h2>Expenses could include but are not limited to:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Research travel<\/li>\n<li>Summer re-contracting (for Faculty only)<\/li>\n<li>Materials or technology<\/li>\n<li>Exhibition costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not sure if your project is a humanities project? Please see our <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/humanities\/\">homepage<\/a> for a definition of the humanities.<\/p>\n<h2>To Apply<\/h2>\n<p>Applications for Spring 2026 grants may be submitted to InfoReady starting February 2 and are due by March 2.<\/p>\n<p>Please submit your application to the Center&#8217;s Director using the <a href=\"https:\/\/uri.infoready4.com\/#homePage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">electronic grant application<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Applications should include<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Your project title, name, phone number, address, e-mail, and department;<\/li>\n<li>An explanation&nbsp;<strong>(no more than two pages)<\/strong>&nbsp;of the scope of your project, as well as its importance for furthering knowledge in your specific field and for the humanities in general;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A brief curriculum vitae&nbsp;<\/span><b>(three pages maximum) <\/b>for each lead participant<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>A detailed&nbsp;budget&nbsp;outlining how Center funds are to be spent. <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;If research expenses exceed the amount the Center will provide, please explain where else you are seeking or have secured funding.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Proposals that do not include all requested information will not be funded.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Please keep in mind that applications are read by faculty across several disciplines who may not be familiar with jargon specific to your particular field of research. They will also be required to provide a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/humanities\/final-grant-report\/\">final report <\/a>to the Director.
