{"id":4181,"date":"2019-01-25T13:52:53","date_gmt":"2019-01-25T18:52:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/humanities\/?page_id=4181"},"modified":"2019-01-25T13:52:53","modified_gmt":"2019-01-25T18:52:53","slug":"junior-faculty-summer-stipend","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/humanities\/junior-faculty-summer-stipend\/","title":{"rendered":"Junior Faculty Summer Stipend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Purpose<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: The Junior Faculty Summer Stipend is a one-time opportunity for one Assistant or Associate faculty member in the humanities to earn $3,500 to devote to research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Eligible projects should result in articles, monographs, books, digital materials and publications, archaeological site reports, or translations. Projects must not result solely in the collection of data; instead they must also incorporate analysis and interpretation. In the Fall of 2019, the stipend recipient will be expected to lead a Connecting Conversations seminar. There they will share their discoveries, but also workshop any questions, conundrums, or points of tension that arose during their research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Eligibility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: There do not need to be any material or travel costs involved in order to apply for this stipend. Those who plan to teach in the summer are not eligible. The recipient may not use the Summer Stipend for the development of curriculum, teaching methods or theories, educational or technical impact assessments, or empirical social science research, unless part of a larger humanities project. Only Assistant and Associate Professors are eligible; preference will be given to Assistant Professors. Applicants who have previously received a grant from the Center and have not yet submitted a funding report are not eligible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Evaluation criteria<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The primary criteria upon which the stipend will be awarded include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The significance of the project to knowledge in the specific field;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/humanities\/your-project-and-the-humanities\/\"><b>The significance of the project to knowledge of the humanities in general;<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The quality of the project, including its originality and clarity,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The feasibility of the proposal and the likelihood of timely completion of the project.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>To Apply<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Please submit an electronic copy of your application <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by <strong>April 1st, 2019&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span>to the Center\u2019s Director in the form of a single PDF file via&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/humanitiesgrants2019\">http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/humanitiesgrants2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your application should include the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The title of your project, your name, phone number, address, e-mail, and department;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">An explanation of the scope of your project and its importance for furthering knowledge in your specific field and for the humanities in general.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A timetable for completing research. Applications are accepted for any stage of the project. If your project will not be completed during this month, you must also include a plan for how you will complete it and how you plan to disseminate your findings. &nbsp;<\/span><b>(3 pages maximum)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A brief curriculum vitae <\/span><b>(3 pages maximum)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please&nbsp;keep in mind&nbsp;that applications are read by faculty across several disciplines who may not be familiar with jargon specific to your particular field of research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>For additional questions, email the Director at <\/b><b>urihumanities@uri.edu<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Other Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The award recipient will be expected to lead a Connecting Conversations seminar in the Fall of 2019. They should also acknowledge the Center\u2019s assistance in any publications or exhibitions that result from the research. They will also be required to provide a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/humanities\/final-grant-report\/\">final report<\/a> to the Director.
