Inclusive SciComm Symposium<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The biennial symposium <\/a>brings together people who work to shift science and science communication toward a just, equitable, and inclusive future. Attendees work across diverse disciplines and settings, such as practitioners, researchers, teachers, students, community organizers, engineers, medical and technical professionals, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 symposium<\/a> took place both virtually and in-person. The in-person part of the conference took place at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island, U.S.A., October 19-21, 2023; virtual sessions were be held on 9\/29\/23, 10\/6\/23, 10\/13\/23, and 11\/3\/23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Science Communication?<\/h2>

Science communication goes beyond academia. The Inclusive SciComm Symposium defines \u201cscience communication\u201d in its broadest sense: any information exchange designed to engage specific audiences in conversations or activities related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or medicine (STEMM) topics. Inclusive SciComm spans many related fields, such as public engagement with STEMM, informal science learning, journalism, community-based participatory research, inclusive pedagogy, service learning, community organizing, and many others.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

What is Inclusive Science Communication?<\/h2>

Inclusive science communication, or inclusive scicomm, is a global movement to shift the traditional paradigm of science communication toward an approach that centers inclusion, equity, and intersectionality. Although a growing number of people are committing themselves to inclusive scicomm, this movement is in its early stages, and is evolving rapidly.<\/p><\/div><\/div>
