If you’re looking for something to do with your significant other on February 14, you’ve come to the right place. Today, I’m going to be listing five different Valentine’s Day date ideas around Kingston for you and whoever you want to spend the day with, whether it’s your significant other, your crush, or your best friends.

1.Fancy Dinner

While this may be a no-brainer, there’s nothing more romantic and intimate than sharing a nice candle-lit meal together on Valentine’s Day. Lucky for us, we go to school in a beach town where there are plenty of beautiful seafood restaurants right near the coast. Some of my favorites include the Coast Guard House and Trio in Narragansett, right on Narragansett Beach. These are great choices for a fancy dinner meal, but if you’re like me and prefer chicken tenders and french fries, there are also many great grill-type places like Mews Tavern and Tavern on Main in Wakefield, and Back 40 in North Kingstown. All of these restaurants will provide you with plenty of options and delicious food for your Valentine’s Day.

2. Sledding

Okay, hear me out – there’s about 2 feet of snow on the ground right now due to the blizzard that hit our area on January 29, so we have to take advantage of that. It doesn’t look like that snow is going anywhere any time soon, so take advantage of the New England weather, make a stop at Ocean State Job Lot to buy some sleds on the way, and find a hill to go sledding down. It’s something so juvenile but so fun once you start doing it. But, that’s not all! The best way to warm up after being outside all day is blankets, hot chocolate, and a movie. So, find your inner child and spend the afternoon sledding together while we still can.

3. Sunset

While it is still very cold outside and we do have aforementioned snow, there is still beauty in watching the sunset over the ocean. One of my personal favorite sunset spots is Camp Cronin in Narragansett. You can bring a bunch of blankets, bundle up in your jackets and gloves, and sit on the rocks to watch one of my favorite things happen. Or, if you hate the cold, put on your favorite music, park facing the water and sit in the car to watch the sunset happen. The sun is setting a bit later now (which means summer is almost here!) so it’s possible to go watch after classes and other responsibilities end for the day. Another honorable mention for beautiful sunsets in Rhode Island is Beavertail State Park in Jamestown. While it is a bit further away and over the Jamestown Bridge, the views are absolutely amazing. Beavertail is one of the first places my friends took me when I got to Rhode Island and has been a fan-favorite of ours ever since.

4. Ice Skating

Yay, more wintery-fun activities! Whether it’s at URI’s very own Boss Ice Arena, or somewhere a bit further away, ice skating is one of the textbook romantic things to do for Valentine’s Day. Luckily for us, there are plenty of beautiful outdoor ice rinks in the area, including the Washington Trust Community Skating center in Westerly and BankNewport City Center in Providence. Whether you’ve played hockey your entire life or you’ve never stepped on ice before, ice skating is a fun activity for anybody to try (and it gives you plenty of opportunities to hold hands).

5. Mystic Aquarium

I don’t know about you, but I love the aquarium. Luckily for us, we are located just 35 minutes away from Mystic, CT, where there is the beautiful Mystic Aquarium. This is a very underrated activity that I feel like I don’t hear about many people doing, especially not on Valentine’s Day. You do have to buy tickets in advance on their website, but this could be such a fun activity for you and your significant other to do together. Think about all of the beautiful fish you’ll see!

There you have it – 5 different Valentine’s Day date ideas for you and your significant other this year. It’s important to remember that even if you are not in a relationship this year, you can still enjoy the day with your friends, family, dog, or whoever is most important to you. While it may be hard to spend this day surrounded by love, you are not alone! If you are in a relationship this year, then I hope you have a happy, love-filled Valentine’s Day!

Hi!
