During the month of September at the University of Rhode Island, there are many fairs, events, and activities to promote club sports, different organizations, and various things to do on our beautiful campus that will encourage students to get involved, socialize, and pad their resumes. <\/span><\/p>\n So, before the month is over and we jump into October, follow along as I share some ways to get involved on campus this year! <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Go to Events!<\/b><\/p>\n One of the first tips I would suggest to anyone who is interested in becoming more involved is to go to all of the events that are promoted around campus. You can find posters and signs on the quad, in classrooms, or in dining halls that share dates of events like RecFest or information sessions. <\/span><\/p>\n As a new student, attending these events is a great way to get to know your way around campus, try new things, and learn more about what is on campus. URI has wonderful resources, like the <\/span>URI Events Page<\/span><\/a>, for students to use to find events that they are interested in. These events are typically free and range from informational sessions about studying abroad, to sunset yoga, and therapy dog visits! <\/span><\/p>\n If you are interested in learning more about these events on campus, head to the URI events page or the URI Events Instagram <\/span>page<\/span><\/a>! <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Do What You Love! <\/b><\/p>\n Were you a three-sport athlete in high school? Have you ever worked in a cafe? Did you always stay after school to do arts and crafts? <\/span><\/p>\n At URI, there are endless opportunities to continue doing what you love on campus. With student organizations like club pickleball, URI Habitat for Humanity, and the Student Senate, there is a spot for everyone! <\/span><\/p>\n For more information on over 150 student organizations, check out <\/span>URI Involved!<\/span><\/a> On this page, you can search for names of groups and clubs to find contact information, location, and upcoming events. <\/span><\/p>\n Moving back to school can be a large adjustment. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to be more involved on campus, like joining clubs or sports that you are familiar with, will help you become more acclimated to campus, find new friends, and fill your schedule with fun activities. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Find a Job that is Right for You!<\/b><\/p>\n My final suggestion for getting more involved on campus is to explore all of the job opportunities URI has to offer. For me, I have found new friends, become more active, and enjoyed my time on campus because I have joined the Campus Recreation team. <\/span><\/p>\n While we still have positions open, like <\/span>blog writers<\/span><\/a> or <\/span>social media content creators<\/span><\/a>, there are many other job options around campus. If you are interested in becoming an office assistant, an IT consultant, an Aquatics Tenant, or even wanting to work at a coffee shop, visit <\/span>Handshake<\/span><\/a> where all job opportunities are listed. <\/span><\/p>\n Being on campus all day for classes can be stressful and exhausting. But, having a place to work, like the Campus Recreation Marketing office, is a great way to work diligently, have an income, and stay involved on campus. <\/span><\/p>\n At URI, there are endless opportunities to get involved on campus. Keeping up with all of the URI events, looking out for flyers around campus, and chatting with friends will help you become more active in the student community. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Thank you for reading this week’s blog about getting involved.
