Homecoming Weekend is always a great way to show off your Rhody pride with a fall flare! This year, it took place from October 25th-27th and there were plenty of fall festivities to participate in. From the homecoming football game and tailgating, to the Rhodyville Block party, there were many events to attend with friends! I love being part of the Rhody community and staying involved. Attending events, showing school spirit, and trying new things can lead to many other opportunities. <\/span>Homecoming Weekend<\/span><\/a> was a blast, featuring a trick-or-treat candy bar, a photobooth, lawn games, food trucks, performances, and Rhody merchandise. My highlight from the whole weekend was the Rhody Marketplace.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shopping Attractions <\/b><\/p>\n

A variety of alumni-owned small businesses showcased an array of jewelry, apparel, and snacks at the Homecoming Tailgate. My favorite one of a kind boutique I noticed first was Crosswynds Traders. During the summertime, before I venture off to Narragansett Beach, I stop by and check out their selection of sundresses, swimsuits, and their classic Rhode Island hoodies. Not only is their material high quality, but purchasing from them also means supporting a family-owned local business that has been around for 30 years. Explore their fall collections and showcase your Gansett pride by giving them a visit! To discover more about the brand, check out <\/span>Crosswynds Traders<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Another notable business that captured my attention was For Shore Co. They presented a variety of New England-inspired apparel, including crewnecks, sweat sets, sailor shorts, caps, tote bags, and lounge sets to name a few. Their collection features an array of coastal designs and patterns that are unique and stylish to wear to class, to the beach for watching the sunset, or even for cozying up inside on a chilly fall day. I found their origin story fascinating, as the owner and designer Lindsay, unintentionally launched the brand by crafting her own designs for her wardrobe, which quickly gained attention from others. Not only is the apparel trendy, I mostly support this brand due to their commitment to philanthropy. Ten percent of their contributions are donated to a nonprofit organization for great white sharks. It is amazing to be able to receive but also to contribute at the same time. Check out <\/span>For Shore Co.<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Food Drive <\/b><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Rhody Outpost <\/span><\/a>was collecting nonperishable items, including snacks, canned meals, and personal care products for students in the URI Community who have experienced food insecurity or those who lack basic necessities. I believe that the smallest contributions can make the largest impact in someone\u2019s life. Giving back is something that I value, especially when you are aware that some of your peers may be facing these challenges. Helping out and giving back when you can is such a rewarding feeling! So if you feel that you can make a difference in someone else\u2019s life whether that is helping a family, friend, coworker, or peer, take that leap and go the extra mile! <\/span><\/p>\n

Football and Tailgating <\/b><\/p>\n

Tailgating is one of my favorite activities to do with friends in the summer, fall, and spring. Whether it is concerts, football, or basketball games, it is a time to enjoy good food and good company! URI played the University of Maine on Saturday, October 26th. The whole performance featuring the band and cheerleaders makes the game even more entertaining, especially when you consider the extensive time and effort that goes into it behind the scenes. Tailgating is always packed, featuring booths, games, and walking around to see other tailgaters and their setups! As <\/span>Family Weekend<\/span><\/a> just occurred, URI takes tailgating seriously. A viewing party was organized in the tailgating area, allowing families to enjoy delicious food, check out the different booths, while also watching the game! It is all about the Rhody spirit, which truly makes your experience! <\/span><\/p>\n

I hope that all who attended Homecoming Weekend had the opportunity to create lasting memories, forge new friendships, support local businesses, and embrace putting yourself out there for new opportunities!
