Since its inception during the 2016-2017 academic year, fifteen URI students have received scholarships to help fund their study abroad experiences thanks to the generosity of William and Sharon Flynn. Recognizing the transformative impact of international learning experiences, the Flynn’s established the William & Sharon Flynn International Study Abroad Opportunity Fund, which provides grants for undergraduate and graduate students engaged in language-intensive experiences that emphasizes in-depth experiential learning and/or scholarly research.
Recipients during the first two application cycles a total of nearly $30,000 in scholarship funding has been distributed, with average awards ranging from $1,000 – $2,500 per recipient. These have been utilized to fund URI student academic experiences in China, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Spain.
