What is Jabber?

Be more productive from anywhere on any device with Cisco Jabber, a new unified communications application. Cisco Jabber lets you access presence, instant messaging (IM), voice, video, voice messaging, desktop sharing, and conferencing.

Jabber is a soft client which will run on any nearly any device – Windows, Mac, and mobile.  This app will allow users to connect to their URI issued phone number for a number of different tasks.  It will work over the air using cellular data (data rates may apply based on your mobile plan), or via wifi.

With Jabber, you have access to your contacts:

It will show you entries from your google calendar:

It has built-in encrypted chat:

Step 1.

IMPORTANT!  Go to your listing in the URI Directory and verify that your phone number and email are listed correctly*.  If they are not listed or are incorrect, please contact Human Resources.  *Only URI phone numbers/email addresses are acceptable.  Hidden/unlisted numbers/emails are not valid.

Step 2.

Contact the URI IT Service Desk (874-HELP) and request a Jabber set-up.  A staff member will contact you to help you through the process.
